June 23, 2010

8-10:30 Health Class was quite boring so I don't really remember what happened.

10:30-11:30 Took the 29 bus back home.

11:30-2:45 Bought a burrito at the taqueria near my house and took a nap for about two hours.

2:45-3:00 Walked to Internship.

3:00-5:00 Went to another day of workshop at intership. Most of our time was spent discussing scenarios, and solutions to problems. We all had to discuss each scenario with our neighbor. In every scenario, 5 groups had to stand up and discuss what they picked and why they picked it. These were some of our scenarios:

1. Would you rather recieve $ 1 million dollares or a BA from Stanford?

2. Would you rather receive a one story house on Third Street or a 2010 Mercedes Benz?

3. Would you rather receive $100,000 now, or $500,000 in 10 years?

4. Do you see the glass as half-empty or half-full?

From this workshop, my coordinator was trying to show us that we should not live "for the moment", but rather for the long term. In the first example, he said that education is key and will get us farther in the future. In the second example, he said that having a stable house is more important because property does not really devalue. The car, on the other hand, he said would devalue every single time a new model of the Mercedes Benz comes out, and therefore would not be worth very much in the long run. In the third example, my coordinator said that it was best to take the money after ten years, a time that we would really need it in. In the fourth example, my coordinator actually said something very interesting. He did not say if his glass was half full or half empty, but instead said that his glass is overflowing, because there are just too many things that he is thankful for. I thought that that was an interesting answer.

5-5:15 Walked with my new found friend that actually lives on the same street and 7 houses away from me. I made a detour to FoodsCo to buy chicken breasts.

5:15-7 Cooked & ate dinner (Garlic chicken & rice).
